House Of Gucci Doesn’t Relate Reel Well

House of Gucci Movie Review

With a cast like this one, it’s hard to believe a film could not live up to it’s hype. The story itself was well-told and acted, but only to a certain extent. Every actors had bad accents. Salma Hayek was the only one who sounded remotely Italian. For a film with such a large budget, where were the language coaches? The most fundamental aspect is vowel pronunciation. In contrast to English, vowels in Italian are pronounced the same in every word. Lady Gaga is an accomplished actress so she is excused. Pacino has become the same in every film he appears in. He is predictable and frankly worn out.

Adam Driver and Lady Gaga do work well together. Their acting compliment each other. “House of Gucci” is fun at times, but it isn’t quite as engrossing as it could be. I found myself staring into space in some of the scenes, like when your tired and reading a book. That is never a good sign. Leto isn’t a convincing Gucci. He is neither classy nor amusing in this one. His acting doesn’t compile you to stay in the cinema and watch the movie. There are some places where humor is well placed, but it starts to be a little over done after awhile. Funny thing is, When it’s not trying to sympathize with its real-life personalities, the House of Gucci is at its best. Although there are moments when the actors immerse themselves and the movie starts to climb up the hill, but it just becomes silly again. I don’t think the casting was where it needed to be for this film. And I think, that in itself, casting poorly can wreck the direction the script is trying to convey.

As far as Ridley Scott is concerned, he will always be one of my favorites. This is far from the worst films he has made, House of Gucci is among his most disappointing.
