As I have mentioned before, 2020’s movie schedule was a disaster movie in itself. I think this year will be better, but not anything like we are used to. Even if we eradicate Covid-19, or at least slow it down, people are not going to the movies right away. That being said, there are a lot of great streaming movies and series lined up this year.

Godzilla Gets Pushed Up

One of those movies that I am excited about is “Godzilla vs. Kong”, As a kid I often would fantasize about this particular match-up. At the time I had both toy replicas, so it was easy to keep the creative fire going with Mattel. These two beasts have squared off before too. The first movie was made in 1962. We knew about this film right around the time Skull Island was released, so it was nice to see this epic feeling film come to the screen. My love for these two monsters dates back to the “Creature Features” days of my childhood. Godzilla vs. King was originally set for November 2020, but for obvious reasons this was pushed up to this year.

Warner Bros Releases Schedule

Warner Bros has released their entire schedule to HBOMax this year and it includes this movie. The road to release has not been smooth though. Legendary Pictures and Warner brothers had a showdown over releasing Godzilla vs King Kong on a “day to date” schedule to HBOMax. This was frustrating for Legendary since they paid for 75% of the budget of the film. However, the two powerhouses worked it out and it is on schedule for March 26.

Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth movie in Legendary’s rebrand of the “MonsterVerse” classic movies. Previous movies include, Godzilla in 2014, Kong: Skull Island in 2017, followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. The movie is directed by Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way To Die, Death Note adaptation). I am looking forward to this so hopefully we see destruction in the movie and not more destruction of big movie schedules.
